Southern Middle School in Alamance County has implemented some changes this week. The school has removed bathroom mirrors after students were found making TikTok videos during class time, as reported by the Alamance-Burlington School System (ABSS).
The district stated that since the removal of the mirrors, there has been a significant decrease in the number of students requesting to be excused to make videos.
The district believes that these changes will contribute to better learning by reducing disruptions in the classroom.
Furthermore, Southern Middle School has introduced a digital hall pass system called Smart Pass, which is integrated with the Clever learning software. It is worth noting that this implementation does not incur any additional costs to the district or the school as it is part of their existing software.
The Smart Pass system enables students to check in and out when leaving the classroom, ensuring that teachers are aware of their whereabouts at all times. This is aimed at enhancing safety and accountability within the school.
